    About this production

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein was Midsummerr's first full production — and it remains one of our favorites to point people toward, because the novel is built for dramatization. It's an epistolary story with nested narrators: Captain Walton writing home from the Arctic, Victor Frankenstein recounting his obsession, and the Creature itself demanding to be heard. On the page those voices blur together. In a full-cast treatment they finally separate, and the book opens up.

Our production gives Walton, Victor, and the Creature distinct voices, with the supporting cast — Elizabeth, Henry Clerval, the De Lacey family — each cast to match. An original score carries the dread from the lab in Ingolstadt to the ice fields of the final pursuit, and sound design fills in the storms, the silences, and the footsteps that the prose only implies.

The result runs about seven hours across 27 chapters, free to listen. It's a good way to hear what dramatized AI audio actually sounds like before you decide whether it's right for your own book.
